How to troubleshoot DSL modem physical connection problems?

Here are the steps of how to troubleshoot DSL modem physical connection problem:

Make sure that the phone jack on the wall is working. You can test it with a normal phone.
Make sure that your DSL modem is powered on. You should see power light coming up.
Make sure that your DSL modem is well connected to the phone jack by pushing harder on both connectros of the phone cord. You should see the DSL light coming up.
Make sure that your DSL modem is well connected to the computer. You should see the ethernet light coming up. Note that some laptop system has power settings to disable Ethernet connection when it is on battery power.
