Handwriting recognition in Windows 8

As a physician I use handwriting recognition extensively. I used Lenovo tablet 201t daily for 3 years. I just acquired Lenovo Helix. Both are high quality computers. The major problems I have with input panel are opening and closing, two lines filling the computer screen, and no delete button.
How do you set up better opening of input panel so it occurs when you put stylus on screen in area to have text entered?
How do you change the input panel to one line instead of two lines? This is a capability in windows 7.
How do you get a delete button back into input panel? Arrow and backspace can be done, but not as efficient as also having delete button.
Where is preference or options setting section for input panel?

The issues asked are Microsoft Windows based and do not apply to Lenovo computer specifically. Just as the same issues were available in Windows 7 and were Windows issues.
