Identify Tech Support Scams
How to identify Tech Support Scam?
✍: FYIcenter.com
There are a couple of ways to identify a tech support scam:
1. If you see a security alert that displays a phone number for you to call, it's most likely a tech support scam. Because legitimate programs will normally give you security alerts with instructions to resolve issue, not to call some phone number.
2. If you hear an audio message alerting you a security issue, it's most likely a tech support scam. Because legitimate programs will normally give you text message alerts, no audio messages.
3. If you see another security alert after you closed the first alert popup box, it's most likely a tech support scam. Because legitimate programs will let you close the alert message.
4. If you see a security alert and a domain name ends with ".xyz", or ".info", it's most likely a tech support scam. Because most legitimate programs are not registered with those domains.
