The fake popup dialog box is not a true dialog box. It is actually a Web page element rendered like a dialog box.
The main reason for scammers to use fake popups is to display them even if you have locked popups in your browser setting.
Clicking the "x" icon on the top right corner will not close the fake dialog box. Clicking it will actually trigger execution of some JavaScript code.
