Windows8 upgrade problems

Just upgraded my toshiba satellite c660 to windows 8 from 7, a vast improvement from the first time i attempted upgrade almost a year ago. However this time around i have no cd/dvd drive, not showing in computer, no error codes or messages, just not showing. if i insert a disk of any sort the drive does spin for a couple of seconds but nothing more. Run a couple of tests after reading of others having same issue, driver software is apparenlty the best available, up to date.
