I believe a recovery drive can optionally include a system image. But I know for sure that if you create a system image with the linked steps above, you can save it anywhere and use it later (USB, or I even keep my backup in my OneDrive so that even if a disaster happens and my house burns, I can just download my image and re-apply it).
